30 September 2002 - The Department of Kinesiology at the University of Maryland-College Park invites applications for a tenure-track position in the socio-cultural aspects of sport, from people interested in becoming part of an innovative research program in Sport Commerce and Culture. We seek a candidate who is a productive scholar in either the historical, managerial, and/or sociological approaches to sporting analysis, as expressed in a focused program of research, experience teaching in the chosen field of study, and an ability to mentor undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral students.

Qualified candidates would be expected to develop a nationally recognized program of original research, while demonstrating a willingness to collaborate with current faculty in the Sport Commerce and Culture program; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise that complement existing curriculum offerings (experience in teaching an undergraduate sport history course would be preferable); and exhibit a willingness to seek external funding.

Candidates should submit a curriculum vita, a research statement focusing on current and planned activities, three representative research/scholarly articles, and official transcripts. They should also submit the names and contact information (telephone and e-mail) for three individuals from whom letters of reference may be requested.
